Synapse has left the building

Synapse

The Webster Dictionary defines ‘Synapse’ as the point at which a nerve impulse passes from one neuron to another.

MPower, the marketing interest group of IIM Kozhikode, construes it as any critical link, be it between the buyer and the seller or between the theory and practice of marketing. The central idea then is to be the ‘Synapse’ which aids the transfer of the "impulse" of ideas and information between the industry and the academia.

Well this would be the umpteenth time, Ive copied this to a website, brochure, mail, speaker invite, etc. Surprisingly Im now going to miss it. It took the best part of this sem, most parts of our summer internships and a large part of my sanity to put it all together. But we somehow managed it, I think:).
People generally fell in luv with the backdrop (see the pic above) and for once in our life we had a seminar with interesting speakers at IIMK :)). But frankly speaking, Marketing is something you can understand w/o any prior knowledge or experience. We have set the tone for some good seminars to come.
People keep harping abt how K doesnt have good industry interaction. Well since mohammed cant go to the mountain we simply decided to bring the mountain to Mohammed and believe me it was one mountaineous task :). I guess we are still quite surprised how it all came through. I still remember haggling with the momento maker the day before the seminar, dropping hints of further business being affected if there was a delay in delivery ;), using my ltd mallu knowledge to request for discounts for the backdrop and praying every nite to somehow get everything together:).
The icing on the cake was the decorator putting a white table cloth on some wierd looking tables the nite bfore Synapse saying that this was all he could provide. At 2'o clock in the nite, Mayank and me were just one step from reducing the chetta population by one :). However threats, pleas and promises of a bonus got us our beloved table borders in the mornin. Mayank n me were awake nxt mornin again arranging everything on the newly decorated tables. Abhijit had to rush off to get the speaker from fortune. The decorator had cut everythin so fine, that it was just 2 mins after the last border was attached that the speakers trooped into the audi, whew.
The rest of the day was spent in arranging vehicles for speakers, ensuring that special delegates were well attended to, etc etc. In between we were party to the web of marketing gyaan woven around the audience by the speakers. I must say there is a certain charisma in marketing which was brought out so well by all the speakers. The audience was quite spellbound. There were times in the seminar wen I wished, somebody else could handle organisation, giving me some opportunity to interact with the speakers. However I must admit that seeing Mayank furiously negotiating with various vehicle drivers and providers throughout the day was also quite entertaining :). The 2nd day of Synapse was also quite stimulating. The high point was Dr. Sahadev including our names in the keynote address.
Hey I certainly shudnt forget Priyas contribution to the massive media coverage we received and Adi for his mess food and of course their resp commitees. Including P.T. Ushaji's USHA school case in hindsight seems quite the master stroke. If only people knew that it was Mayank and me (with Dr Sahadevs help) who framed it :). Which reminds me that we have to work on the USHA SDP project soon.

Anywayz heres some media coverage we received
